Massage Therapy
Our full-time program consists of 17 weeks and 650 hours of New Mexico Massage Board-certified instruction in the fundamentals of massage therapy. The program includes classes in both theory and practicum: where you will learn the foundational aspects of massage therapy and the mechanics of how the human body functions, coupled with classes explaining the art and science of massage, and culminating with coursework focused on creating a successful business in massage therapy. Massage Therapy
Our massage therapy course covers an array of topics, including massage strokes, their variations, body mechanics, and professional draping techniques. Also included in this module are client assessment, treatment planning and contraindications, and documentation.
Massage Therapy
Contraindications
This course teaches massage practitioners how to apply techniques safely, how to screen for contraindications, and when to avoid an area or postpone massage.
Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Pathology
Massage Therapy
Anatomy
Our anatomy class examines the structure of various systems of the human body. Medical terminology, cells, and tissues, the body compass or directional terms, and palpation of important body landmarks are also discussed.
Massage Therapy
Kinesiology
Kinesiology focuses on the study of human movement and includes the names of skeletal muscles, their locations, attachment sites, actions, and fiber direction. This course includes study of bones of the upper and lower extremity, bones of the axial skeleton, and muscles of both movement and respiration.

Physiology
This course covers the functions of the various systems of the body and how each is affected by massage. Body systems discussed include the skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, and more.

Pathology
This section includes a primer on infection control which allows massage practitioners to better serve the public by understanding and implementing measures that reduce the risk of disease transmission. This section defines concepts of disease, the chain of infection, standard precautions and transmission-based precautions, and discusses cleaning and disinfecting procedures for surfaces, objects, and laundry.
General Instruction

Hydrotherapy
A complete exploration of client treatment using various forms of water is included in our curriculum. This section covers the use of water as a healing agent, contraindications, procedural guidelines, and specific applications of heat and cold in various capacities.

Business
This section explores various requirements for establishing a massage practice from a practical point of view. This course also explores the process of establishing, growing, and maintaining therapist-client relationships through the development of professional communication and interviewing skills.

First Aid and CPR/AED
Basic first aid as it applies to being a first responder to the public in general and our massage clients in particular. This section includes a review of Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the proper usage of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Ethics
This section will expand your perceptions and help you navigate the world of ethics, in which your own prejudice or a client’s motivation may change how you approach a situation. This course also includes information regarding professional standards, code of ethics, professional conduct, confidentiality, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act (HIPAA) regulations.

Covers stages of rehabilitation, tissue healing, and treatment of common injuries and conditions through the application of deep tissue massage techniques.

Discusses evidence-informed practice, research literacy, the research process and approaches to research.

NM State Rules and Regulations
Explores the licensing requirements, the state massage laws, and the rules and regulations of the massage profession as it applies to practice in the state of New Mexico.

Aromatherapy
Explores the theory and practice of applying natural plant extracts or aromatic essential oils to promote health and well-being.

Nutrition
A discussion of what constitutes good health, professional hygiene, and proper nutrition. This section includes a guest lecture from a local nutritionist.

Asian Bodywork Therapy
Explores the theory and practice of the five elements, their cycles, and ways to assess energetic imbalances.

Study and Practice Exams
Presents the best study practices and how to prepare for the state licensing exam and the board certification exam.

Clinical Practicum
Under the direction of an instructor, students perform client-centered sessions to members of the community at a reduced rate.

The New Mexico School of Massage charges the same tuition for all students. We keep the tuition simple and straightforward.

Refund Policy & Schedule

Please note these fees are subject to change for future programs.
The following will be the refund schedule for all tuition paid to New Mexico School of Massage.
Based on withdrawal from class:

Week 1-2: 80% tuition refunded

Week 3-4: 60% tuition refunded

Week 5-6: 40% tuition refunded

Week 7-8: 20% tuition refunded
Please note that the application fee is non-refundable.
Deposit paid toward tuition is refundable within 30 days of the course starting.
